i started off this month by doing something incredibly silly: staying up all night long for no real reason. i'd been sleeping pretty badly for a while and decided the best thing to do would be to "soft reset", as it were. it was utterly awful. boring, too. i just looked at my phone all night. it's funny to look back on now, of course, but it was not fun at all. i won't be pulling another no-reason all-nighter again, that much i can say with certainty.
also, this month i listened to A Big Day for Grimley for the first time. it's a pretty good song. Roach Farmer did a cover of it a little bit ago, which is how i found out about it. i like it.
i've started work on my Year in Review for 2025 this month too. there's not so much to it yet, just a small list of ideas for things i could talk about in it. of course, we've still got a good little chunk of the year left. i'm aiming to get started on writing a rough draft by the end of November at the latest. plany off time
as of last week, i've officially been journalling for five years now! i just find that interesting.
i still haven't been doing much creative stuff lately, but i did doodle this funny thing a couple days ago:
i was feeling pretty frustrated about how stuck i've been feeling lately. it's hard to get away from the internet these days, in more ways than one. it pisses me off to think about, so i drew that feeling, and whaddaya know? it made me feel a little better.
this month i went to a local writers club meeting for the first time, and in order to have something to show, i typed up a small "elevator pitch" for my Lorecastle project. it was pretty exciting, actually. for a long time, i've been tinkering with the finer worldbuilding details of the story, which is a lot of fun, but it also keeps me from actually writing the story that the story's about. this helped me get my head on straight again, somewhat.
i've also played a bit of Silksong! i haven't played the original Hollow Knight, but Silksong is such a big deal in the corners of the web (haha) that i lurk in. i'm not a huge gamer, and i'm not really good at these sorts of Metroidvania-style games, but i think that's become a factor in my enjoyment of it. every time there's a boss fight, i get my ass kicked at least ten times before i succeed, which only makes victory taste all the sweeter. slowly getting the hang of all the movement tricks you can do is real rewarding too. i'm only partway through act one right now, what with my other responsibilities and being really tired all the time and not very good at the game, but it's a treat nonetheless.
i think October is gonna be a big month for me. i've got plans to clean up my workspaces, get rid of old clutter, and i might even have a job interview lined up in the near future. i'm not totally sure of that one yet, but i did tell myself that getting a job this year was non-negotiable. i was losing hope on that front, but i think i might be able to turn it around, so that's pretty exciting.
