beach 2morrow. ideas 2day (august 9, 2025)

tomorrow, me and my family are going to the beach for a couple days. this is the kinda thing where suddenly i can tell that i've been changing as a person, because day-to-day it's kinda hard to tell, y'know? some days it feels like i'm still the same person i was when i was twelve, but twelve-year-old Chavez would be seething at the idea of being in a different place for a couple days. nineteen-year-old Chavez is pretty stoked, all things considered. being in a place that i'm not usually in is pretty exciting, even if i'm not planning on doing much there.

my goal is to use the internet as little as possible while we're over there, if not keep off it entirely. i'll bring a few books with me, a bunch of art supplies, my awesome new Gaslight District journal, and i'll focus on those. i might try to write a poem or two as well, if inspiration strikes. awgh. it'll be stupendous.

for today, though, i've got my mind on what i'd like this site to look like. this site's been a pretty consistent inspiration of mine ever since i found it, but today, it's the landing page in particular. i think the dithering looks very nice, and the simplicity of it is something i'd really like to emulate. i'd like very much to add their button to my button wall, but i can't really find it anywhere at the moment.

another thing i want to draw inspiration from is public access cable television, or at least WSKR Channel 17. it might just be because i don't fully understand it, or because people my age tend to adore stuff from just before our time, but that sort of stuff gives me a nice feeling. a sort of coziness that makes the world feel smaller and less intimidating, a point in time when it seemed like everything was alright and the TV wasn't so bright. does that make sense?

it'd be neat to have the CSS and visuals of this site to be kind of inspired by visuals from that era of television. i don't know if i want to really emulate it (trying to mimic a CRT screen or VHS distortion seems really hard), but i want to try to bring that feeling i was just talking about to this site. the orange background with the leaves is nice, and it's been here since the beginning, but it's probably time to change it up and see where it takes us. it's one of the things i want to brainstorm while i'm out at the beach.

there's a lot on my to-do-once-we're-home-from-the-beach list, so i probably won't put these ideas into play super soon. one more idea i have is a ramble page about GameClam, since i've been listening to a behind-the-scenes podcast episode about it while doing chores this morning and it made me remember how much i like GameClam. the videos themselves make me laugh, but the behind-the-scenes stuff makes me smile.
