week of feb 19th: write a piece inspired by two famous dali paintings-- persistence of memory and the elephants. consider exploring movement, slowness/speed, heat/cold, and warped sensations.
the desert is finite, but vast. it stretches bare in all directions, unknown and intimidating.
it is not i that is moving. the sands shuffle past me at an even pace, neither slowing nor hurrying for me. low mountains move like great beasts.
the air is very warm, like one too many blankets piled on top of me. it's suffocating.
what time must it be? how close am i to the end?
regardless of me, the desert moves, slow and steady. the things that live here are familiar and strange. this animal should not be so tall, its legs branch-thin and unevenly segmented. i do not look at the people-shaped things.
time does not obey reason here. eternities are contained within individual minutes, and hours pass while i'm not looking.
the desert is vast, but finite. it stretches bare behind me.
